Compile Heart announced Hyperdimension Neptunia: GameMaker R:Evolution, a newly announced spin-off RPG title in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. An official website for the game has also been opened, revealing details about its upcoming title.
Compile Heart has also announced that a demo for the game will be playable at Happinet Game Fes! 2023 Spring at the Bellesalle Event Hall in Akihabara Tokyo, starting Saturday, March 25, so if you happen to be in the area you can give the game a few months ahead of its release.
Hyperdimension Neptunia: GameMaker R:Evolution will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on August 10, 2023!
▍Neptunia: GameMaker R:Evolution Worldview
The series takes place in a world known as Gamindustri, a realm ruled by four goddesses that are the personifications of game consoles. The series parodies the real-life gaming industry with references to real-life events in gaming history, and other forms of media, such as other games, anime, and even manga at times.
Hyperdimension Neptunia: GameMaker R:Evolution is a spin-off starring Adult Neptune (who debuted in Megadimension Neptunia VII) and set during an era of competing game studios.
After three game developer goddesses lose the race for market share in sales, Adult Neptune, a traveler of many dimensions, is tasked with reviving the fallen developer business when the three goddesses ask her to become the president of their plummeting enterprise. It’s up to the player and Neptune to save the goddesses from being labeled “failures” and dropping off the proverbial gaming industry map.
▍Neptunia GameMaker R:Evolution Gameplay
Your main objective in Neptunia GameMaker R:Evolution is to manage a game company and gradually expand to become a large enterprise. Compile Heart explained that players will want to “keep your eyes peeled for a Neptunia game evolved in every aspect.” Despite the anticipatory wording, some gameplay details of the upcoming title have been revealed in the trailers and announcement posts by official channels.
The game will feature turn-based combat and dungeon crawling aspects, taking control of a party of not 3, but 4 characters that are now assigned to the cardinal directions of the D-pad. Neptune and her friends can transform with the EXE Drive and Goddess transformation like the previous titles.
A screenshot showed off the multidimensional protagonist riding out on a bike within the dungeon map, being able to move around the map quickly. A separate bike racing mini-game seems to also be available.
Players will be tasked with managing game development in this new game mode. Develop “discs” that can strengthen character skills. And as your company grows, you will be able to develop even better discs, so gradually expand to become a larger enterprise.
▍Neptunia: GameMaker R:Evolution Characters
■ Neptune – CV: Rie Tanaka
A dimension traveler and the main protagonist of the game. Her role as company president also serves as a means of finding the Nep-Note, which she dropped during her dimension hopping. She is a wandering bug hunter with an awakened form reminiscent of a butterfly.
■ Pipi – CV: Yuko Natsuyoshi
Confident, reckless, and with a leader-like mentality, she considers herself the smartest person in the world. She is the producer who goes by the name “Pipi-P.” Her name and appearance are derived from the defunct open multimedia technology platform, Apple Pippin
■ Jarga – CV: Satsuki Miyahara
A cool girl vaguely based on the Atari Jaguar from ’93. She considers herself the best calculator in the world but is terrible at it. She prefers to talk using abbreviations like “GGDD” (gongo doudan, meaning absurd). She handles production and public relations. Her signature catchphrase “Do the math” is a reference to the slogan that was actually used to promote the console in its hay day.
■ Lideo – CV: Hina Yōmiya
A mad scientist personification of the late Panasonic 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, Lideo spews venom with a smile. She considers herself the most sensible person in the world. She handles programming and graphics at the company.
■ Croire – CV: Mika Kanai
A tome similar to Histoire from the previous games, Croire was sealed in the Nep-Note by Adult Neptune, but has been freed and is said to be hiding at a pirate maker’s base.
