SEGA announced that an updated version of the classic collection, Sonic Origins Plus, will be released on June 23 (the same day as Sonic’s birthday! AGAIN!). The game will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The collection launches digitally and physically as a standalone title for USD$39.99. The physical release of the title also features a Sega Genesis-Styled reversible box cover, alongside a 20-page mini artbook. A separate digital upgrade to the existing Sonic Origins will also be available for USD$9.99.

■ New Characters Join the Fray
The enhanced collection newly adds Amy Rose as a playable character in the three mainline games and Sonic CD. The trailer shows her in action, twirling a hammer whenever she performs a spin jump, though the game seemingly does not pull from her movement capabilities seen in the later Sonic Advance series.
Knuckles was also revealed to be an additional playable character in Sonic CD, briefly showing him zipping through Tidal Tempest and Quartz Quadrant in the trailer. Sonic Origins Plus will also be adding new routes to Sonic CD that are only accessible when playing as him.

Sonic Origins Plus newly adds 12 classic Sonic games from the Game Gear handheld over to modern platforms. Play through wild spin-off titles like Triple Trouble and Mean Bean Machine, all exclusive to the console!

Sonic Origins Plus will also be including the previously released two DLC contents for the original anthology collection.
The Premium Fun Pack DLC features Hard Missions, 10 Letterbox Backgrounds, Bonus Character Animations in-menu & music player, and additional re-mastered music tracks. The second Classic Music Pack featured 73 additional music tracks from Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, and Knuckles’ Chaotix games.

The original anthology was released on June 23, 2022, on all platforms. The entry served as a classic collection of the 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games, including the four momentous titles; the very first Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.
The collection includes a Classic Mode, where you can enjoy the games in their original and unaltered format, and a new Anniversary Mode experience, which stretches the aspect ratio to 16:9 and gives players infinite lives.
The collection also added features welcome to series fans, such as the Museum mode, where players can unlock a variety of collectible content and add it to their collection, such as music, videos, and artwork. The “Normal Collection” contents are automatically unlocked as the player progresses through the game. In the “Premium Collection” on the other hand, the player must spend Coins (which are a new collectible in each game’s zones) to unlock the content there.
