Akatsuki Games held its Akatsuki Games Now live stream showcasing some of its upcoming titles, one of which was a newly announced original project, that is tentatively titled Project Akatsuki.
This original title by Akatsuki Games which started a year ago follows a special task force, the game emphasizes “speed” in this fast-paced 3D action game. The game is set in a cyberpunk world and features characters that are inspired by Japanese mythologies, with characters resembling Onis and other animals.
The game director says the game is heavily influenced by anime and mangas, and that the game’s themes follow a Ninja motif from its characters and world. The game will feature cutscenes that are all rendered in-engine, and made with the same technology and technical know-how used for Tribe Nine.

Project Akatsuki takes place in Akatsuki City and is a 3-character squad action game where players hack, slash, and blast their way through enemies using a squad of characters. The game seems to incentivize building characters in a specific team, as part of the game showcases what looks like an elaborate cinematic team attack performed with specific members.
Each character has their own distinct fighting style and choice of weaponry, as characters like Mio Sakagami are seen wielding a sort of gigantic mace that can change its form, while others like Kokoro Otake are seen firing a barrage of missiles at her enemies from a distance in a massive mech.
