The summer gaming festivals continue to go rogue with multiple big game shows busting up to showcase the biggest and the upcoming titles in the second half of 2023. In the two-hour showcase at today’s Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, event host Geoff Keighley showcased a ton of game trailers, news, updates, and more!

Starfield Live-Action Trailer Stirs Up the Emotion
Starfield made its debut at Gamescom 2023 with a new live-action trailer during the stage featuring Elton John’s “Rocket Man”. The first new IP by Bethesda in 25 years, brings open-world exploration to the next level as players can explore over 1000 planets in real-time with no loading screens, using their own customizable spaceship and engaging in real-time shooting, all while carving their own path through the stars. The game will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6.
Little Nightmares III Announced for 2024
One of the first surprises of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 was undoubtedly the announcement of Little Nightmares III, coming with a reveal trailer showcasing the new protagonists, Low and Alone. The latest installment to the puzzle-platform horror adventure game also introduced a co-op system to the franchise so that you can embark on this twisted adventure online with your friends. Little Nightmares III will be released on PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in 2024.
Tekken 8 Gets January Release Date
Bandai Namco confirmed that Tekken 8 will be arriving on January 26, 2023 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, though the release date has been leaked a day ago from the Microsoft Store. The latest trailer also highlights the 32 unique fighters beloved by fans set to appear in the 10th entry in the franchise. It has also been revealed that the game will mark the beginning of “a new Tekken saga” following the death of longstanding antagonist Heihachi Mishima.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink Finally Has a Release Date
Cygames surprisingly dropped a new trailer for Granblue Fantasy: Relink together with a release date on February 1, 2024. The game was supposed to release this winter, but as the Gamescom-only trailer revealed, the game has been pushed back into early next year. The trailer also revealed a mysterious new character with no further details. I guess we have to find it out when it arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
Cyberpunk 2077 Offers First Look at its Massive 2.0 Update
In a new gameplay trailer released during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, CD Projekt Red revealed a major overhaul and new features coming to the open-world action game Cyberpunk 2077 and its new expansion, Phantom Liberty. Along with a new Dogtown district in the futuristic game world, Cyberpunk 2077 is receiving a significant update on September 26 that completely changes the massive RPG to its core.
Mortal Kombat 1 Gamescom 2023 Trailer Shows Off New Characters
Ed Boon made the trip all the way to Gamescom 2023 to reveal a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 which confirms the return of four classic characters. The latest in NetherRealm’s long-running fighting game franchise, bringing the series to the next level, as Liu Kang who has become the Fire God after MK11 resets the universe, ushering in a brand new timeline, and challenges. The game features familiar characters re-imagined, along with the new Kameo assist system, and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S on September 19.
Killing Floor 3 World Premiere Trailer
We also got our first look at Killing Floor 3 with a world premiere trailer at Gamescom 2023 showing off a gruesome breed of mechano-zombie in this upcoming sequel to the popular first-person shooter franchise. While not many details were revealed, Killing Floor 3 will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Games store. No release date was mentioned.
Sonic Superstars Arrives in October
Confirming a leak from earlier in the year, Sonic Superstars will indeed be heading our way on October 17, 2023. The newly revealed trailer in Gamescom Opening Live put an emphasis on the game’s multiplayer aspects. While you are welcome to play the side-scrolling platformer solo, it’s also fully playable in up to four-player co-op! Sonic Frontiers’ The Final Horizon Update Out in September
Sonic Frontier’s big The Final Horizon content update is now sporting a release date on September 28, 2023! The free update will introduce new story content, and new playable characters – Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. Fans who can’t wait can check out the new teaser trailer teasing the new challenges ahead!
Diablo 4 Season 2 Comes in October
Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant is barely a month into its run and Blizzard has shocked fans by revealing the arrival of Diablo 4 Season 2 on October 17, 2023. In addition to a new Vampire Hunter companion named Erys, Season 2 will feature a powerful vampiric dark lord raising an army of bloodthirsty vampires, and players must master vampiric abilities to fight them. New endgame bosses, a Stash filter feature, and updates to inventory management will also be available.
Black Myth: Wukong Gets New Gameplay Trailer
Black Myth: Wukong has resurfaced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, bringing with it a new trailer that shows off more of the game’s magical folklore action. Based on the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, you can expect a hack-and-slash, perfectly timed combat as you wield the incredible abilities of the Money King that includes the power to shape-shift into different creatures. The game is yet to receive an official release date, but it’s expected to release sometime in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
Crimson Desert Gameplay Trailer Showcases Its Insane Medieval Open World
Black Desert studio Pearl Abyss offers us a new look at Crimson Desert with a new gameplay trailer showcasing its gigantic Medieval fantasy world packed with lots of content. Apparently, your protagonist can engage in a long list of open-world activities: battling, fishing, hunting bounties, hijacking carriages, sieging castles, arm wrestling, sheep rescuing, petting dogs, exploring sky islands, ascending in hot air balloons, and climbing massive, lumbering beasts. It seems that the open-world game has a lot of things in store, but unfortunately, no release date or window was given for Crimson Desert.
New Trailer for Post Trauma, a Silent Hill-Inspired Horror Game
independent developer Roberto Serra revealed a new trailer for its upcoming horror game Post Trauma, which is scheduled to release on PC and consoles in Spring 2024. It is not hard to tell its inspiration when you follow the 57-year-old Roman wonder between the terrifying twisted dreams and reality, solve mysteries, and find a way back to your family.
Nightingale Enters Early Access in February 2024
Nightingale, the highly anticipated debut game from Inflexion Games, received a new Early Access release date during the Gamescom Opening Night Live stream. The developer also revealed a new trailer showcasing its steampunk survival crafting urban fantasy vibe. Gamers who are looking forward to entering the beautiful yet dangerous Fae realm will be able to do so when it enters early access on February 22 for PC via Steam and Epic Games store.
Zenless Zone Zero Reveals More Gameplay in its Latest Trailer
HoYoverse revealed some juicy new footage on Zenless Zone Zero, giving players another scintillating peek at the upcoming urban fantasy ARPG. The new trailer takes us to its beautiful world with several characters, including General Chop and Asha. We also get a good look at a tense boss fight and see some of Zenless Zone Zero’s combat in action! No release date is specified, unfortunately.
Honkai: Star Rail PS5 Technical Test Recruitment Opens Now
Hoyoverse also opened the technical test recruitment for the PlayStation 5 version of Honkai: Star Rail! The developer also reveals a new trailer providing a glimpse into the upcoming Version 1.3 of the game, Celestial Eyes Above Mortal Ruins, available on August 30!
New Alan Wake II Trailer Shows Off Live-Action Cinematics
And as anticipation grows for the upcoming release of Alan Wake II, Remedy Entertainment has released a new gameplay trailer, one that allows you to delve into the writer’s personal nightmare. The interesting thing about this new footage is that it’s made up of both in-game cinematics and gameplay, with live-action scenes played by the same actors they’re modeled after. Alan Wake II is set to launch on October 27, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games store.
