Today (9th October), the popular manga series, Kingdom (キングダム), held a press conference and officially announced a live-action adaptation for the series.
During the press conference, Yamazaki Kento (山﨑賢人), the actor of the Your Lie in April’s live-action adaptation Kousei Arima, will portray the protagonist of the series, Shin. Kanna Hashimoto (橋本環奈) has also been announced to play the role of Ka Ryo Ten.
Other actors revealed as part of the cast include Masami Nagasawa (長澤 まさみ) who will be playing Yo Tan Wa, Ryo Yoshizawa (吉沢亮) who will portray Ei Sei, Kanata Hongo (本郷 奏多) as Sei Kyou, Shinnosuke Mitsushima (満島 真之介) as Heki, Masahiro Takashima (高嶋 政宏) as Shou Bun Kun, Jun Kaname (要 潤) as Tou, and Takao Osawa (大沢 たかお) as Ou Ki.

The film will be directed by Shinsuke Sato (佐藤 信介) who also directed the live-action adaptations for GANTZ and Bleach. The upcoming film celebrates the release of the series’ 50th volume. Back in 2016, Kento Yamazaki also starred in the series’ 10th Anniversary Special Movie.

Kingdom is written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara (原泰久). It has been published Weekly Young Jump since 2006. The story is set in the Warring States period of ancient China. Shin (Li Xin), an orphan in the kingdom of Qin, wishes to be one of the “Great Generals of the Heavens” so as to change his life for the better. Following the death of his dear friend, he decides to help Ei Sei (Yin Zheng) claim his throne so that the cruel war can end once and for all.
