Classic anime series Megazone 23 (メガゾーン23) has a new project in progress after 28 years. The production is currently raising funds on the crowdfunding site Campfire.
The new project will be set in the year of 2020. Sakura is an ordinary high school girl who gets caught in a war between the government and the resistance after being attacked by robotic weapons in an explosion accident in Tokyo. The characters will be designed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s animation director Masahiko Komino and the Monogatari series’ character designer Akio Watanabe.

Megazone 23 is originally a four-part cyberpunk anime series produced by AIC studio. The first movie dates back to 1985. The second movie was released in 1986 and the last two parts were release as original video animations in 1989.

The project is now aiming at raising 10,000,000 yen by 29th July this year. It is unknown when it will be delivered if the target is met.
