[Qoo Review] Best easter egg series: Mob Psycho 100

How many One Punch Man can you find in Mob Psycho 100?

If you love One Punch Man(ワンパンマン), then you must have heard of Mob Psycho 100(モブサイコ100). Mob Psycho 100 is another manga series by One Punch Man’s mangaka, One. I think this is pretty obvious as the two series share the same art style and the protagonists have the same dead-fish eyes. One and the production team, being the big teasers they are, put a hell lot of One Punch Man references in Mob Psycho 100.

And they are so so so hidden that it took me a hell lot of time to find them.

Saitama, a.k.a. the legendary One Punch Man, appears in a few episodes of Mob Psycho 100.

In episode 1, Arataka Reigen tries to scare away a spirit by flipping his phone open, and that’s when we can see Saitama’s bored face on the phone screen. He is even wearing his signature costume here!

Episode 2 has one that is very hard to notice. This guy on the left from the Telepathy Club is reading a book or manga named One with a bald guy on the cover. The bald guy wears a yellow shirt, a color that represents Saitama. So this is very likely referring to the bald Saitama from One Punch Man.

The one below is also from episode 2, and it is just plain obvious. This is a freaking One Punch Man manga! Although the person on the top of the left panel does not show his entire face, he does resemble Genos a lot. Therefore, I assume he is.

∇ Ep 2, Mob Psycho 100

This one is from the ending of episode 3. A mini Saitama is seen on the paper cup.

∇ Ep 3, Mob Psycho 100

I have to admit that I didn’t discover this one by myself. I can’t believe how other people found out about this one. I mean, Woah, it is so well hidden. This one is from episode 7, and this Saitama who blends in with the background so well shows up only for like, a second.

∇ Ep 7, Mob Psycho 100

Apart from Saitama, some passerby-like characters could be referring to several characters from One Punch Man.

When watching episode 3, do this guy’s striking suit and chin remind you of a certain someone? I have to say it reminds me of a character that makes quite an unforgettable appearance in One Punch Man.

∇ Ep 3, Mob Psycho 100

Ahh yes, the Puri Puri Prisoner. How can you forget him after he first shows up in episode 8 of One Punch Man? He is gay,  he remembers all details about the male prisoners he has a crush on, and he is imprisoned just because he sexually harassed multiple guys.

∇ Ep 8, One Punch Man

This one – I am not sure about it, but this guy from Mob Psycho 100 shares the same hairstyle with one of the heroes in One Punch Man.

∇ Ep 7, Mob Psycho 100

This is Metal Bat from One Punch Man. They really do share the same slick hair.

∇ Ep 10, One Punch Man

I am even more skeptical about the following one. This guy shows up in episode 1. He has a chin like balls. He has a 7:3 haircut. He looks like he is rich, too.

∇ Ep 1, Mob Psycho 100

In episode 1 of One Punch Man, a seemingly younger version of the guy above appears as a child who plays soccer. 7:3 haircut? Check. Chin like balls? Check. Rich? You know this kid is rich if you watch out for the details about the Hero Association when watching the anime. The kid, whom we all know is saved by Saitama, is actually the grandson of the Hero Association’s founder. The founder creates the association just because this kid is saved by a hero he doesn’t get to know.  So, yeah, this kid is rich.

And yes, this kid could possibly be a younger version of the guy from Mob Psycho 100.

It has been real fun to go easter egg hunting while re-watching two of my favourite anime. Now it’s time for another hunt. What series should I do next?

P.S. In fact, I like One Punch Man more since Saitama is an absolute babe.
P.P.S. Saitama has a bald – I mean gorgeous head.
P.P.P.S. Genos is a babe, too.
