At today’s Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live, Funcom announced Dune: Awakening, an open-world survival MMO that is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Working with Legendary Entertainment, Dune: Awakening is set on Arrakis and takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s Academy Award-winning film. The game will place thousands of players at once on a shared version of Arrakis, tasking them to build their own shelters, bases, and factions.
Players can explore the world using Dune’s various vehicles, find the hidden treasure before sandstorms change the world, and even use harvesters to gather spice. And of course, when you’re harvesting in-game both the sandworms and other player factions will be on their way to stop you.
The developer also revealed a cinematic trailer that gives a taste of what’s to come. The game can be wishlisted now on Steam and gamers can also sign up for the Beta on the official site. More details about the Beta will come at a future date.
