Aniplex and DeskWorks! have revealed the first promotional video and gameplay details of its upcoming mobile RPG World II World at today’s Tokyo Game Show 2022 official live stream program. The game is scheduled to release this winter.
Unlike recent mobile games, World II World is a traditional single-player RPG without any social/ multiplayer elements. The story is set in three divided worlds, which are on the brink of collapse under the attack of a mysterious enemy. World II World will center on six protagonists, who try to stop their worlds from destruction. The game’s scenario will be updated weekly, just like a weekly shōnen manga.
The 2D sidescrolling game will be split into two screens, where you can enjoy different stories unfold on the upper and lower screens. As the game is set in a world divided into two, the scenario will proceed separately on the upper and lower screens, with two viewpoints showcased at the same time.
The game has prepared a lot of gimmicks making use of the two split-screen features. For instance, if you launch a rocket at the lower screen, the rocket will fly above and assists the battles on the upper screen. The game will also require you to use both hands to do simple actions at the same time on the two screens. This system may sound familiar on the DS, but it will be the first of its kind in mobile games.
