Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service, initially released in 1989, revolves around a 13 years old witch-in-training Kiki who lives in a small rural village and Tombo, a boy fixated in aviation and Kiki.
After almost three decades, Japanese’s Nissin Foods Group releases a new ad for their cup noodles which features a re-imagined version of Kiki and Tombo. In the new ad, a love story blooms between the two characters who are imagined as 17 years old high-schoolers.
The re-imagined characters are designed by mangaka Eisaku Kubonouchi (窪之内英策), most known for Chocolat and Cherry. THe ad uses BUMP OF CHICKEN’s Kinen Satsuei (記念撮影) as BGM. The ad is the first installemnt of Nissin’s new Hungry Days campaign.
