Anime series FLCL, commonly known as Fooly Cooly (フリクリ), is going to continue with two sequel animation movies as confirmed in Anime Expo 2017. The new works will be co-made by Production I.G and Cartoon Network.
In the announcement video, a short preview of FLCL 2 can be seen. The story introduces a new character Hidomi, who lives an average life until a classmate has a giant robot emerging from his forehead, and she needs “that girl” to save her and everyone. The background theme song is by The Pillows, who were also responsible for the music in the original FLCL. The movie is scheduled for 2018 release.
FLCL 3 is also revealed at the end of the clip but without a release date announced.
FLCL is an original video animation produced by Gainax and directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, the assistant director of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Kazuya will instead be the supervisor in the coming productions while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will retain his role as the character designer.
