It was announced that the unfinished manga series Phoenix by “the Godfather of Manga” Osamu Tezuka is getting a new anime adaptation titled PHOENIX: EDEN17. The anime will be distributed exclusively on Disney+ worldwide in 2023.
The main character Romy, and her partner left the collapsed Earth and headed to the planet Eden 17 to start a new life. However, life on that planet has already been exterminated, and Romi will be forced to struggle even more… The official trailer highlighted Romy and others, who take on an adventure on a devastated planet and the vast universe. It was also revealed that the anime will be produced by STUDIO4℃.
Phoenix is considered one of the greatest manga of all time, which consists of 12 books, each of which tells a separate, self-contained story and takes place in a different era. The plots go back and forth from the remote future to prehistoric times. The story was never completed, having been cut short by Tezuka’s death in 1989. Several of the stories have been adapted into anime series and OVAs, and a live-action movie.
