A remastered version of Hopoo Games’ roguelike action game Risk of Rain Returns has been announced during Nintendo’s Inside the House of Indies: Holiday Event by Gearbox Publishing for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch in 2023.
Risk of Rain is an action game that was released in 2013 by indie publisher Chucklefish. The player lands on an unknown planet and continues fighting for survival. The sequel, Risk of Rain 2 is a 3D action game, but this remastered version, like the original, will be composed of 2D pixel art.
Improvements and new content include the following features: Dots have been remastered for higher resolutions, Updated program code allows for additional features and ongoing updates not previously possible, Updated background music and sound effects by the composer of Risk Rain 2, and new songs have also been added.
The gameplay and balance have been reworked to provide a smoother gaming experience without sacrificing the original experience. New content, playable characters, characters’ unlockable abilities, as well as new enemies and bosses will be available for players to re-explore the game. The game will also support for online/offline cooperative play for up to 4 players.

The denizens of Petrichor V are as diverse as the many planets they once called home. As these monsters approached extinction on their own worlds, a mysterious force brought them to Petrichor V. The planet quickly grew to be a menagerie of the most dangerous monsters in the galaxy, and they’re not thrilled by interlopers (aka YOU).
