Publisher City Connection and developers Toaplan have revealed that Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam on May 25 worldwide!
The publisher explained that the classic bullet hell shooter first released on the Sega Saturn will be making a return as part of the publisher’s newly established line of “Saturn Tribute Boosted” games.
Released as an arcade vertical shoot ’em up (shmup) title in 1993 by Toaplan, Batsugun was ported over to the Sega Saturn console three years later as a Japan-only release. Credited as the pioneer of the bullet hell subgenre, the game garnered much attention in its heyday for the large number of bullets that would cover the entire screen, opting for gameplay that demanded precision and puzzle-like evasive maneuvers.
The Saturn version of the game would also include a “Special” version of Batsugun that rebalanced the game and improved the overall sound quality. Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted will give players the choice of playing both the original and special versions of the game!

Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted will be more than just a port, featuring new features such as The Boost Up HUD, a new user interface that displays the experience gauge, the current score (plus hidden bonuses), and the title of the background music currently playing. The game also features an online ranked mode and the maximum score has been increased for more challenges.
Other features newly include:
- Newly recorded BGM of the arcade version through high-quality digital recording
- A sound-switching function that allows you to play with your favorite version of the BGM
- The Rewind function allows you to redo a mistake
- Quick Save/Load function
- A stage select function that allows you to select your favorite stage and power up status
- Three screen resolutions to choose from: Home Console, Arcade, and Portrait
- Score display function for online ranking with more digits in the score than the original
