At today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that the latest title in the Pikmin series, Pikmin 4, will be coming to Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023. A brand-new trailer was also unveiled in the showcase.
The trailer highlights the new protagonists and a new type of Pikmin known as Ice Pikmin, which can freeze water surfaces to cross. In addition, a new dog companion Oatchi will assist players in the overworld. More information about the title will be coming at a later date, but it’s exciting to know that we only have to wait a few more months to experience the cute little Pikmin again!
▍About Pikmin 4
Pikmin is a real-time strategy and puzzle video game series where players take control of a captain, and small creatures known as Pikmin. They can be ordered to perform various tasks such as defeating enemies, breaking walls, collecting fragments and a whole lot more.
Each Pikmin has a different type with unique quirks. For example, Red Pikmin can resist fire, Yellow Pikmin can conduct electricity and Blue Pikmin are able to swim underwater. In Pikmin 4, a new type called the Ice Pikmin was added, which can freeze enemies and surfaces for players to hop across.
Not much was talked about Pikmin 4’s story but it is possible to guess a few things: It looks like our objective will be to collect treasure scattered across the planet, with four crew members being introduced. And it appears that you might be able to explore during nighttime, something that was previously not possible in past series.
