Preferred Networks, a Japanese deep learning app developer, announced Omega Crafter, an open-world survival crafting game for PC, and unveiled its first trailer, which gives us a glimpse of its beautiful and interesting world, showcasing how block programming combined with the game’s mechanics. The game is scheduled to launch for PC via Steam in quarter four of 2023.
Omega Crafter follows a game developer who enters the world of a game that is under development due to a mysterious interference program and builds the necessary in-game assets to complete the game by finding and removing interference.
In a vast world consisting of multiple biomes (fields), the protagonist utilizes programmable characters called Grammis as sidekicks to develop the game by defeating enemies created by interfering with programs, growing crops, creating items, and building towns.
Grammi and its friends’ tasks can be automated through simple visual programming that combines blocks. This allows them to take the place of the protagonist and carry out necessary tasks such as managing the fields, collecting materials, creating items such as weapons and equipment, and building and maintaining the town.
The more efficient Grammi’s tasks are, the more advantageous the main character will be in the game, which seems to be the major feature of Omega Crafter. The vast open world utilizes an auto-generating algorithm to automate the placement of terrain and objects, providing a different experience for each player.
The game is being developed by a small team and is a title that can be enjoyed as a pure survival craft game while utilizing the technology and knowledge of Playgram, an educational platform developed by Preferred Networks, which helps anyone to take their first steps in the world of programming.
