SIEG Games, known for popular games like Grandia, GunGriffon, and Lunar series, announced that it will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming multiplayer mech-based action game, Project MBR (tentative title).
Project MBR is expected to launch in April 2024, and the Kickstarter campaign for the game will go live on March 7. The game’s YouTube channel also revealed a video interview with the developers and the first trailer.
The game’s director, Ryuji Inomata, has over 30 years of experience in the game industry and has worked on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and GunGriffon. Koichi Inoue, with more than 30 years of experience in Japanese mecha and anime, is credited as the animation producer, while Noriyuki Iwadare, renowned for his works on Lunar and Grandia, composes the game’s music.
The producer Yoichi Miyaji said that Project MBR is being actively developed from a pro-consumer perspective, and the team plans to routinely update mechs, battlefields, and other elements of the title in hopes that players will enjoy this refreshing, original take on robot action shooters for a long time to come. The Kickstarter campaign will help raise funds for the game’s development.

▍Project MBR Gameplay
Project MBR is being developed for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, and it will be a team-based multiplayer game that involves five players per team. The objective of the game is to control mechs from a cockpit perspective and work together as a team to accomplish the mission objectives.
*As announced by the developer, the images revealed are low polygons since the game is in an early stage of development.
Players will be able to alternate between tank, flight, and turret forms as they maneuver through a realistic universe that is set roughly 30 years into the future. Mastering each form will be key to victory, as each form will confer unique advantages and disadvantages in combat.
The game will be made in Unreal Engine 5, and it will feature a soundtrack by Noriyuki Iwadare, who is the composer behind the Grandia series. The game’s battle system is deep and intricate, and players will need to take more than just shooting into account to be successful.
Radar facilities, fixed artillery points, and other stations will be scattered across the battlefield, and operators will need to plan to overwhelm defenses and eliminate each of these stations to complete their mission.
The game will also feature drone companions that players can command and change their behavior according to situational analysis. Additionally, SIEG Games is considering mech customization via weapon combinations, which will greatly expand the range of tactics players will be able to deploy in combat.
For the sake of proper balancing, Project MBR will not include loot boxes or other F2P components. Instead, the game will be developed entirely through updates that are directly influenced by feedback from the community. This way, players can have a more significant impact on the game’s direction and development.
