Capcom is releasing a series of light-hearted anime shorts for Resident Evil 4 Remake, titled the Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater, with Episode 1 out now.
And yes, these animation shorts are hilariously based on an old-school anime art style reminiscent of Dog of Flanders created by Nippon Animation studio, which had many famous animators on its staff including Hayao Miyazaki!
The series comically retells Leon’s journey in RE4, with the first episode going over his encounter in the village, which you can play right now in the game’s Chainsaw Demo.
Since Capcom titled the latest short Episode 1, hopefully, we can look forward to a few more before the game officially launches on March 23.

▍About Resident Evil 4 Remake
Resident Evil 4 Remake is the 2023 remake of the massively popular survival horror game released in 2005.
The game aims to preserve the same themes and essence of the original title while modernizing aspects of its control scheme, gameplay, and story with new graphics to make the survival horror experience fresh for the modern era.
RE4 takes place 6 years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and have you take on the role o Leon S. Kennedy, a former police officer now recruited and specially trained as an agent, who directly reports under the president of the United States. When the president’s daughter was kidnapped by an unknown organization, Leon is tasked to head to a secluded European village to find her, where he quickly realizes something is terribly wrong with the place and has to face a threat even greater than that of Raccoon City’s.
Resident Evil 4 is critically acclaimed and is largely attributed to the growth of 3rd person shooters of the Xbox 360 and PS3 era, with its over-the-shoulder camera, quick-time events, light cover mechanics, and inventory system.
