The first post-launch content update for SEGA’s latest high-speed hedgehog action title Sonic Frontiers will be arriving on March 22!
Dubbed the ‘Sights, Sounds, and Speed Update’, the free DLC package sees three game modes added to the game. The update will automatically install where automatic updates are supported, or players can manually download the latest version of the game to receive the update.
Update (March 25, 2023): A new trailer outlining the update has been released!
Sonic Frontiers first announced its post-launch updates DLCs as early as December when the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account posted a future content roadmap for the title in December 2022.
The second update will celebrate Sonic’s birthday, most likely hinting at the update’s release date around June 23. This content update is also expected to also include an Open Zone Challenge and new Kocos being added to the game.
The third and last update will bring new playable characters and stories. The corresponding image shows Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, though it’s unclear if all three of Sonic’s friends will be actual playable characters as of this writing.

▍New Challenge Modes Added in Sonic Frontiers
After installing the Sights, Sounds, and Speed Update for Sonic Frontiers, players will be able to unlock these new challenge modes upon completing the game once.
■ Cyber Space Challenge
Test your platforming abilities in the new Cyber Space Challenges, where players will race against the clock to complete several levels of Cyber Space in a row. Can you roll around at the speed of sound?
■ Battle Rush
In the all-new Battle Rush mode added in Sonic Frontiers’ first update, players can test their mettle as they fight through a gauntlet of enemies from each island. Each battle is harder than the next, as encounters escalate from regular enemies to guardians to culminating in a showdown with the island’s Titan boss fight.
The announcement for the update also hinted at special surprises being rewarded if players achieve a higher rank. Level progression on Sonic will carry over from the base game, so aim for the fastest clear time with your leveled-up hedgehog!
