Developers Konami officially announced that its iconic bomb-brandishing heroes will return in the new Super Bomberman R 2, which will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 13 in North America and September 14 in Europe and Japan.
Konami first revealed Super Bomberman R 2 during the Nintendo Direct Mini in June 2022. The sneak peek trailer revealed that the game would feature various modes and a brand new story mode that introduces new planets alongside the Ellons, who serve as new allies to Bomberman. Players must try and protect the universe from an unknown threat.

▍New Gamemodes in Super Bomberman R 2
As the follow-up to 2017’s Super Bomberman R, the game features several new modes that spice the challenge up along with the return of the more well-known Standard, Grand Prix, and Battle 64 games.
■ New Castle Mode
The new Castle Mode divides five players into four attackers and one defender to contend for the treasure chests scattered across the map! Take on your opponents using your surroundings and fight your way through the castle ramparts to get at the treasure as the attacker, or thwart the invaders as the defender of the castle, as you fight their offenses until time runs out! The new alien races Ellons make an appearance here, acting as helping hands for the defender side.
■ Stage Editor
Customize different castle stages with unique blocks, gimmicks, and stage hazards to change things up with the new Stage Editor function. Newly created stages can then be played and shared with others online!
■ Enhanced Story Mode
Even going solo, you will be able to enjoy some of the newer PvP-centered game modes with the new single-player campaign! Along with a new story that introduces the new alien race called the Ellons, the 8 Bomberman sets off on a new adventure that will set him upon new challenges.
Game modes present in multiplayer show their faces here, with moments throughout the story requiring you to fortify areas yourself with blocks not unlike the castle stage editor feature and taking down onslaughts of enemies that rush into an objective. The inverse situation can be seen in the trailer as well, with Bomberman infiltrating enemy structures to collect keys to open chests!
