Inspired by folktales and desolate landscapes, Rusted Moss is a twin-stick shooter Metroidvania that officially arrives on Steam today. The game is also offering a 10% discount to celebrate its launch for those who purchase it before April 19.
Rusted Moss aims to engage players in fast-paced bullet-hell-inspired boss fights as they move quickly along with the grappling hook through desolate landscapes drenched in melancholy.
What makes it interesting is that the game is created by a small all-female group made up of three friends – Faxdoc, Happysquared, and Sunnydaze. Keen game jammers met while participating in GM48 Game Jam, a 48-hour game-making marathon using GameMaker Studio. The team started working on Rusted Moss, based on the hook mechanics that Faxdoc played with, which they all thought was fun.
In fact, Rusted Moss has already been raising some attention among indie fans as it receives a lot of positive feedback in its previous demo. Now players can finally dig into its unique wasteland while blasting the way through witches and rusted machine monstrosities alike.

In Rusted Moss, the player utilizes the grapple and weapons with a full 360° aiming system. The freedom created by these controls creates a smooth experience for users to feel in complete control of their character. Find creative solutions to flexible traversal challenges, and blast away witches and machinery with precise aiming.
The grappling hook is hard to learn yet rewarding to master. This unique physics-based elastic grappling hook uses your kinetic momentum to propel your character forward. Similar to rock climbing, there’s no set path through this melancholic abandoned wasteland. Latch onto any moss-covered structure and swing your way through this rugged terrain.
No more aiming in just 8 directions. As a twin-stick shooter, Rusted Moss emphasizes tight and precise gunplay. Quickly switch between your arsenal of weapons to best suit your playstyle and situation. Get up close and personal with a shotgun before grappling away and pulling out a sniper for the killing blow.
The Rusted Moss Level Editor allows you to create your own original stages, letting your imagination run wild with a bunch of tiles, terrain, and gimmicks to play around with. You can also upload your custom levels using Steam Workshop and play levels created by other players.
