Developers Sonic Powered announced Panic in Sweets Land, a side-scrolling action game that is set to release for PC via Steam with a tentative “coming soon” under its release date tab. The game will be playable in both English and Japanese upon release.
Known best for its numerous train simulation games such as the Tetsudou Nippon! series and development of the SNES remake title Actraiser Renaissance in 2021, Sonic Powered’s latest Panic in Sweets Land takes a drastic genre swerve from its established line-up of games under its belt, being a side-scrolling hack-and-slash title.
Panic in Sweets Land takes place in a whimsical world named Sylphy Land, a place inhabited by mysterious creatures, it exists in a realm separate from the human world, ruled under the dominion of the fairy queen, Miruru.
One day, however, the malicious being called aptly Evil, took over and transformed the fairies into dark counterparts of themselves. What caused the Evil to manifest and control them is a mystery. The patissier’s turned heroes Lime, Mint, and Puffee must drive Evil out of the fairies’ hearts, and restore peace to Sylphy Land!
The game also boasts a fully voiced story campaign that features a star-studded voice cast lineup including but not limited to: Shiina Natsukawa as Lime, Sora Amamiya as Mint, Momo Asakura as Puffee, Chiwa Saito as Queen Miruru, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the Evil King.

■ Chain Powerful Combos
Powerful attacks can be chained together in a string to make powerful combos. The damage you deal keeps multiplying the more you keep up the combo and even unlock the ability to use a finisher-like move called a “Restore Action” that sees the Lime or Mint feeding the fairies delicious little treats that dispel the evil out of them.
■ Swap Characters on the fly
During gameplay, players can switch between the two protagonists Lime and Mint, as they see fit. While Lime excels at close-range combat and racking up combos with her fire magic, Mint can engage enemies from a long distance while applying status effects that open up foes for longer combos with her ice-based powers.
■ Power up and unlock moves with an RPG-like growth system
Panic in Sweets Land features an RPGesque progression system that gradually sees Lime and Mint gain new moves and status bonuses across each encounter they conquer. Every enemy successfully defeated using the Restore Action racks up more Restore points and materials which can be used to create more tastier, powerful treats that will power up the heroes.
Rewards dropped from restoring your fairy friends also scale depending on the difficulty, with the game offering 4 levels from Normal to Nightmare. The difficulty level can be changed at any time from the main menu options.
■Post-game Challenges
Completing the story campaign of Panic in Sweets Land unlocks two separate game modes that will test your mettle as a magical girl hero. “Hurry Up! Charisma Magical Girl!” is the game’s time-attack mode that will challenge players with the task of blitzing through each stage as fast as possible, while “Miruru’s Heart-Pound Trials!” is a survival mode that has you fending off enemies until you fall for the highest score.
