Get thrilled, Star War fans! The world-hit franchise is getting its own open-world game! As announced at today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are developing Star Wars Outlaws, which is slated for an early 2024 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws has players explore Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. With distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new places await!
“It’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with the team at Lucasfilm Games to create Star Wars Outlaws, the first open-world Star Wars game,” said Julian Gerighty, creative director at Massive Entertainment on StarWar.com.
“Our team at Massive Entertainment has a great deal of experience in open-world games backed by strong technology, and it’s the perfect time to tell an original scoundrel story that will resonate with fans. With the Galactic Empire on the heels of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld thriving, an outlaw like Kay Vess has a whole galaxy of opportunity in front of her.”
Ubisoft is billing Outlaws as the property’s first-ever open-world title, and first announced its deal with Lucasfilm back in 2021. More information on the game, including how it plays, will be revealed at tomorrow’s Ubisoft Forward event.
