During the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Studio Zero, the team at Atlus that includes the creatives who made Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 shared the official announcement trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio, a JRPG formerly known as Project Re Fantasy. The game is scheduled for a 2024 release for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Microsoft Store.
Metaphor: ReFantazio collected game veterans; director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro aiming to offer a fresh perspective to the RPG genre. And apart from the following Persona-like screenshots, the game’s tagline – “Enter the mirror of reality… into the pinnacle of fantasy” should give you a general idea on where it heads to.
Nothing much has been revealed at the moment, but Atlus promised that more information will come with a dedicated live stream broadcasting on June 20 at 22:00 [JST], which is expected to delve deeper into the game’s world, its mechanics, characters, and narrative.
