Based on a shojo manga series of the same title, coming TV anime Banana Fish is set for release in July this year. The first trailer is now available.
The manga is written and illustrated by Umimachi Diary’s creator, Akimi Yoshida (吉田秋生). It was published during May 1985 and April 1994 on Bessatsu Shojo Comic.
This anime adaption is directed by Hiroko Utsumi (Free!) at Yuri!!! on ICE’s studio, Mappa. Inuyashiki’s screenwriter Hiroshi Seko is responsible for the script while Akemi Hayashi (Peacemaker Kurogane) is responsible for the character design.
▍Story
Ash Lynx is a young gang leader in New York City looking to solve the mysteries of “Banana Fish” – a phrase that his soldier brother Griffin Callenreese said after attacking his fellow comrades. Eiji Okumura is an university student and an assistant photographer who takes inspiration from street youths. Soon, Eiji becomes the sole person that Ash opens his heart to, and Ash protects him at whatever cost it takes whenever the two go on a mission.
