A new rising mobile game is coming up, with Bluepoch’s mystery RPG, Reverse 1999. The game has been picking up buzz since its reveal trailer in August 2021 and is gaining even more attention in China with its second beta test coming in June!
In a unique move, Reverse 1999 is fully voiced in English as opposed to using Japanese voice actors, making the story easy to understand for overseas players! In fact, the original plan for the game does include a release with English text and voice. But the game will be released in China only and a global launch is yet to be confirmed. The game currently has over 1.7 million pre-registered users in China!
In Reverse 1999, players take on the role of arcanists, people granted the unique power to traverse through the 90s after a powerful storm in 1999 swept the world back to the 1920s. Battle paranormal creatures with a card battle system, and uncover a growing mystery as you find the truth behind the storm, and your legacy.

▍Reverse: 1999 Story
On the final day of 1999, the world was brought to a new era – the 1920s, by a mysterious storm. The new version of the 1920s introduced the world to a new power known only as Arcanum, a strange power allowing its wielder to traverse through the 20th century, unbound by the laws of time. Those that wield the power are called Arcanists, and it’s up to you as one of them to travel through the time-stream and uncover all the secrets hidden in this new world.
▍Reverse: 1999 Game Systems
Reverse: 1999 is a turn-based card battling RPG. Players control a team of Arcanists, each with unique spells, and battle against the paranormal beings that have emerged from the storm. Using strategy and knowledge of your enemies, take them down swiftly and let nothing get in the way of uncovering the truth.
▍Reverse:1999 Global Version is Coming Soon?
With the game being fully voiced in English, it seems the developers intend the game to be released to western markets, as usually its become a trend for anime-styled games in China to come with a cast of popular Japanese voice actors, but Reverse 1999 is one of the few to come out of the gate with an all-English cast.
This is further supported by Bluepoch having listings on their website urgently hiring English, and Japanese translators! There is no release date for an English version yet but with the 2nd beta about to happen in China, it may be around a year before the game arrives globally.
